You know, I do have a Twitter account. I signed up for it about a month ago, imported every e-mail address I have, and found out that the intersection between the set of the people on Twitter and the set of people I know is the empty set.
Not so much with the penetration into my social circle.. Seemed like a good idea at the time!
(Of course, Facebook went much like that for me: about three years ago I signed up for a Facebook account, couldn’t find a single person I knew on there, and then a year later got a friend request and discovered that *everyone* I knew was on Facebook all of a sudden….)

Yeah, I agree that Twitter is still pretty unknown. I read somewhere though that is was projected to be the next BIG thing… We’ll see.
