Finally an answer to the age old question: Why Humans Have Sex

July 18th, 2007 · No Comments

From a study of 2000 sexually active humans- the verdict is in, we have sex for many, many (mostly stupid) reasons.. The work was published in the No Shit Sherlock Journal of Sexual Behaviour. This might be the latest waste of paper coming from Evol. Psych, But I’ll let you decide. Interestingly, the paper is not available on either of the authors sites (Meston, Buss), or online at the journal homepage.. Anyway, they say…

“The frequently endorsed reasons for having sex, reflect what motivates most people most of the time: attraction, pleasure, affection, love, romance, emotional closeness, arousal, the desire to please, adventure, excitement and opportunity,” say the psychologists.

Really?? You don’t say… More interesting are the less common (odd) reasons:

What!! I wanted to feel closer to god?? WTF! Who was the lucky guy (or gal) involved in that “encounter”

But really- I’m pretty surprised this kind of study is publishable… Does it add anything to our understanding of human sexual behavior? I’d argue NO, we already know that people have many reasons, and that very few of them make any sense whatsoever… This is the type of thing that we could do on a blog. Hell, we could even do it better… It’s survey, no more..

Ok… I’m cooking up a survey… Hmmm….
