Who is James L. Sparks Jr. M.Sc.??

May 23rd, 2007 · 2 Comments

ID’er, young earth creationist, or credible scientists???

Anyway, Jim has been busy spamming the Mammal-L and Ecolog-L listservs for the past few weeks… Here is one of his posts.

Have you seen this? A peer reviewed journal for young earth creationism! Please tell me that someone out there is preparing some stiff opposition to this.
When this thing gets off the ground it will do a pretty good job of undermining scientific method and credibility. This may be even worse than recent scandals involving pharmaceutical industry funding of product research or petroleum industry scientists contradicting climatologists on global warming. Journals on the whole are losing their credibility because of various financial entanglements in a few key fields. This current attack is not going to help ecology and evolutionary biology one bit.
As goes the reputation of journals, so goes the voices of reason. Can anyone think of a way to defend Aristotelian logic or all we all going to just watch placidly as the age of reason slips into the shadowy recesses of a new, albeit perhaps more subtle Dark Ages.
Sincerely,
Jim Sparks

Notice the link in his siggy… To the journal homepage. I sent the following..

Hi All- Let’s just make sure everyone is aware that Jim is somehow associated with this Creationist group (see link in his signature)… Nice try Jim. One minor point to follow:

When this thing gets off the ground it will do a pretty good job of undermining scientific method and credibility.

I suppose you mean IF this thing gets off the ground??? You can’t really call a very small group of “scientists” all reviewing each others stuff- then publishing it peer review…I for one have absolutely no fear that this will “undermine” the scientific method. It is more likely to fall flat on it’s face and make them look silly than anything else…

Now Jim responded- stating that the journal would fly- and his use of the word WHEN was intentional. Never did he refute my claim that he himself is a young earth creationist…Hmmm, if that was me (or any other non-creationist scientist), the creationist bit would be the FIRST thing that would be refuted…

Now in other posts, Jim seems to complain about how this journal will further confuse an already confused public, especially after “science scandals” like the Exxon Mobile’s paying off scientists to refute climate change research…. I’m not sure about this guy- seems as if his intention is to flame these online communities- but playing the other side of the coin confuses…

Anybody know this guy?

Are you related to James L Sparks in Luxemmburg, who chairs a online investment company?
